SMARTMUSEUM technology for enhancing the visitor experience in the museum and outdoors

In the course of the workshop there will be a presentation of the results of the Smartmuseum project including both an indoor and outdoor demo. The presentation will highlight an application which has been developed for handheld and smartphone devices to provide multimedia information and enhance the museum visit and the visit of historical-scientific outdoor points of interest.
The workshop will begin with an introduction of the Smartmuseum project and a presentation of the technology that has been developed for handheld devices. Following the brief introduction will be an outdoor tour to showcase the Smartmuseum technology using smartphone models to supplement the tourist experience and give suggestions for points of interest, according to the profile of the user.
The tour will then move to the museum for an exhibit of customized PDA devices that can enhance the visitor experience by providing additional information and resources regarding the instruments and museum content most aligned with the interests of the user.
The presentation will end with a discussion and survey of the workshop with a brief conclusion to summarize the Smartmuseum project with a look to future applications and potential fields.

Target audience is museum curators, researchers and scholars in the sector of scientific communication and distribution of multimedia and digital archives.
