.....................

The scientific instrument collection of the Istituto e Museo di Storia della Scienza includes, in addition to the objects on permanent display, a considerable number conserved in the Museum's storage deposits. The latter currently consists of several thousand instruments dating from the 16th to the early 20th century. Most of the instruments are in good condition and the most important ones are periodically exhibited "on rotation" in the rooms of the Museum and in the new exhibition spaces on the ground floor of the Institute. A significant number of them are still undergoing restoration, due to the major damage caused by the great flood of 1966. Most of the instruments in the depository have already been catalogued in the computerized catalogue system specially created by the IMSS for this purpose, in accordance with the Ministry of Cultural Affairs.
