Farnese Globe

By observing and studying the surrounding environment, man developed his first theoretical reflections, mainly used for pratical benefit. In-depth knowledge of astronomy was used to measure time and a close relationship between astronomical observation and the agricultural calendar was established. Mathematical rules guided the surveyors in their work. Through experimentation the Romans progressed in their study of medicine while their knowledge of colors and the phenomenon of vision was applied to architecture and the figurative arts.
