Description Terrestrial telescope consisting of six tubes, five of which are made of wood and have octagonal sections, while one (the smallest), made of cardboard, has a circular section; all are covered in red marbled paper. The biconvex objective is mounted in a separate tube which slides in the final part of the largest tube. Both the lens and the ring enclosing it are inscribed "Eustachio Divini in Roma Palmi 12" (corresponding to circa 2700 mm). The smallest section contains the composite eyepiece. The erector tube could be removed, thereby transforming the instrument into a simple astronomical telescope. The eyepiece lens and the front lens of the erector are now missing. This instrument can enlarge objects 44 times. |
