Description

Telescope consisting of nine sections. The largest tube, made of cardboard and covered in red and white ornamental paper (the white part has turned yellow), contained the objective, now missing. All the other tubes are covered in red marbled paper. Contained in the last section is the biconcave eyepiece, diameter 20 mm and focal length about -50 mm (the negative focal length means that the lens is diverging). The glass shows a very slight green tint and some spherical bubbles. From the quality of the glass, the concave eyepiece and the characteristics of the tubes it can be presumed that the instrument was made towards the mid-seventeenth century, whereas from the paper with Italian and Latin writing which covers the inside of one of the tubes can be deduced its Italian origin.
